Child Seat Inspections

 

 

Over the past year, the MCIEAST-MCB Camp Lejeune Safety Department, in conjunction with The Safe Kids, Naval Hospital, Provost Marshall Office, Camp Lejeune Fire Department, Jacksonville, Police Department, North Carolina Highway Patrol, and the Onslow County Sheriffs Office, have inspected many car seats of various types.

The Car Seat Inspectors (CSI) have discovered that most car seats were found to be unserviceable or improperly installed.   The Safety Department, along with our Law Enforcement partners, encourages all parents to take the extra step and have your child car seat inspected.

Per MCO 5100.19F Marine Corps Traffic Safety Program:
Individuals who operate personally owned, off-road motorcycles, All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV) or Light Utility Vehicles (LUV) off-installation will participate in the installation or local dealership off-road motorcycle, ATV/LUV course, i.e., Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA) course, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA) course. This includes off-road recreational vehicles controlled by Marine Corps Community Services.  Government ATV/LUV operators will complete an approved ATV/LUV training course.

All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV)
ATVs, also known as a quads, quad bikes, three-wheelers*, or four-wheelers, are vehicles that travels on low-pressure tires, with a seat that is straddled by the operator, along with handlebars for steering control.  They are designed to handle a wider variety of terrain than most other vehicles.  ATVs are intended for use by a single operator, although some companies have developed ATVs intended for use by the operator and one passenger, referred to as tandem ATVs.  *Although three-wheelers are defined as an ATV, they are not authorized for operation on DoD installations.

ATV Safety Institute Training Course
Individuals who operate personally-owned ATVs off-installation or government-owned ATVs on installation may attend the installation ATV Safety Institute Training Course.  8 hours.  Training will continue through lunch, so bring what you want to eat and drink (no alcoholic beverages).

Ranges
Classes will be held at Mile Hammock Bay (TLZ Blue Bird) located off Hwy 172 (Sneads Ferry Rd) between Courthouse Bay and Onslow Beach Rd.  Meet in the gravel parking lot beside the large boat ramp.  Training begins at 0800 and is held outside. 

Prerequisites
Participants must bring and use their own ATV or their unit's ATV, extra fuel, and the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- DOT or Snell approved helmet, recreational use (govertment-issued Kevlar helmet if training is for operational unit only)
- Protective eyewear (goggles or full-face shield attached to helmet).  Motorcycle glasses that have the soft rubber lining on the inside are allowed. No sunglasses.
- Long sleeve shirt/jacket, long trousers and full-fingered gloves.
- Hard-soled, over the ankle boots
Students that do not bring or wear the proper PPE will not receive the classroom or riders training.

Light Utility Vehicles (LUV)
LUVs are defined as a motorized specialty vehicles designed to perform utility tasks such as cargo and passenger transportation, either on or off road, has a steering wheel and is either gas or battery operated.  These vehicles may also be known as Side-by-Side Vehicles, Utility Off-Road Vehicles, Multi-Purpose Off-Road Vehicles, Recreational Off-Road Vehicles, and UTVs. 

Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA) Course
Individuals who operate personally-owned LUVs off-installation or government-owned LUVs on installation may attend the installation ROHVA course.
8 hours.  Training will continue through lunch, so bring what you want to eat and drink (no alcoholic beverages).

2.  Participants must bring and use their own LUV or their unit's LUV, extra fuel, and the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- DOT or Snell approved helmet, recreational use (govertment-issued Kevlar helmet if training is for operational unit only)
- Protective eyewear (goggles or full-face shield attached to helmet).  Motorcycle glasses that have the soft rubber lining on the inside are allowed. No sunglasses.
- Long sleeve shirt/jacket, long trousers and full-fingered gloves.
- Hard-soled, over the ankle boots
Students that do not bring or wear the proper PPE will not receive the classroom or riders training.

Dirt Bikes
Dirt bikes are lightweight motorcycles equipped with rugged tires and suspension with a seat that is straddled by the operator, along with handlebars for steering control.  They are designed for riding cross country or over unpaved ground.

Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Dirt Bike School
Individuals who operate personally-owned dirt bikes off-installation may attend the installation MSF Dirt Bike School.  8 hours.  Training will continue through lunch, so bring what you want to eat and drink (no alcoholic beverages).

Ranges
Classes will be held at Mile Hammock Bay (TLZ Blue Bird) located off Hwy 172 (Sneads Ferry Rd) between Courthouse Bay and Onslow Beach Rd.  Meet in the gravel parking lot beside the large boat ramp.  Training begins at 0800 and is held outside. 

Prerequisites
Participants must bring and use their own ATV or their unit's ATV, extra fuel, and the following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- DOT or Snell approved helmet, recreational use (govertment-issued Kevlar helmet if training is for operational unit only)

- Motocross apparel is recommended and preferred, but not required.
Students that do not bring or wear the proper PPE will not receive the classroom or riders training.
