OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH

The following safety services are available from the MCB Camp Lejeune Installation Safety Office. Requests for services should be submitted in a timely manner utilizing the Safety Services Request link on the Marine Corps Camp Lejeune’s Safety webpage. Provision of some safety services is dependent on resource availability and may require approval from the Installation Safety Director/Deputy Director, and/or a request in ETMS2.

When requesting services for participation in safety fairs/events, please submit request a minimum of 30 days before the event for which you are requesting services.

The Safety Training schedule is posted on the MCB Camp Lejeune Safety webpage. All training listed below may not be scheduled for the year. If you require a training class that is not scheduled, contact the safety office.

SAFETY TRAINING

The following training is available through the Installation Safety Office. Requests for training outside of the scheduled training posted on the Safety webpage, via the MCB Camp Lejeune webpage, are subject to manpower and resource availability. If you cannot locate the training you are seeking, please contact the Installation Safety Office.

  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training
    • Required initially and annually thereafter by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for employees who may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their regular duties.
  • Collateral Duty Safety Representative (CDSR) Training
    • Required for employees appointed to collateral duty positions within six months of being appointed to the position according to OSHA regulations.
    • This training is for company/platoon/shop level safety representatives.
  • Confined Space Entrant Supervisor/Attendant/Entrant
    • Employees who are exposed to confined spaces shall be given training upon assignment to their position and annually thereafter.
  • Ergonomics Training
    • General awareness training for new personnel on the basic principles of ergonomics. It should be renewed on an annual basis.
  • Ground Safety for Marines (GSM)
    • This 2-week course is required for all personnel fulfilling the billet of Ground Safety Officer/Manager for their unit.
  • Ground Mishap Investigation Course (GMIC)
    • 1 week course required for all personnel serving as the GSO/GSM for their unit and for anyone who may be assigned as a mishap investigator.
  • Hazard Communication
    • Required for any employee who is subject to hazardous chemical exposure in the workplace.
    • This shall be completed upon initial assignment to the workplace and whenever a new hazardous chemical is introduced to the workplace.
  • Lead Safety
    • For individuals who may be exposed to lead hazards in the workplace.
    • Shall be conducted annually for all workers who are exposed lead hazards in the workplace.
  • Lock Out/Tag Out
    • This training should be given initially upon employment and annually afterwards.
    • This is for any employees who are preforming maintenance or service on equipment that can may contain hazardous stored energy.
  • Non-supervisor Safety
    • General awareness safety training for non-supervisor employees.
  • OSHA General Industry 10-Hour
    • Introduction to OSHA and basic overview of workplace safety.
    • Provided by request only.  
  • OSHA General Industry Standards 30-Hour
    • Introduction to OSHA and basic overview of workplace safety.  
    • Prepares supervisors and employees to identify and abate workplace hazards.
  • Radiation Protection Assistant (RPA) Training
    • Armories aboard the installation are required to have RPAs assigned in writing and trained on the hazards of radiation exposure.  
    • Training shall be completed upon initial assignment and annually thereafter.
  • Respiratory Protection Training
    • Employee who are exposed to airborne contaminants are required to have a Respiratory Protection Program (RPP).
    • This training is to be conducted upon initial assignment and annually thereafter.  
  • Radio Frequency Safety
    • Radio frequency (RF) safety training is necessary for anyone who may be exposed to RF energy.
    • This training should be conducted annually.
  • Supervisor Safety Training
    • Required initially and annually thereafter by OSHA for employees in a supervisory position.
    • This training will enable supervisors to recognize, eliminate, or mitigate occupational safety and health hazards in their workplace.
VEHICLE SAFETY TRAINING
  • Advanced Riders Course (ARC) New class is the Advanced Riders Course Update (ARCu)
    • One day level II class required for all riders 180 days after the completion of the BRC or identified as a licensed rider. Must be renewed every 5 years.
    • (MARSOC every 3 years).
  • All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and Utility Vehicle (UTV) Training
    • One day course required for all operators of government owned dirt bikes, ATVs or UTVs. Rider with personal equipment may take the class.
  • Attitudinal Dynamics of Driving (ADD)
    • One day class for anyone assigned by Traffic Court, or unit Commander for traffic violations to correct driving deficiencies.
  • Basic Riders Course (BRC)
    • Two-day course required for all non-motorcycle endorsed riders or riders that have a motorcycle permit.
  • Level III Motorcycle Training
    • This training encompasses three schools paid for by HQMC; Yamaha Champions Riders School (YCRS), Circuit Riders Course (CRC), and California Superbike. Can be taken after the level II class and can be used as level II recertification.
  • Motorcycle Mentorship Program
    • Class developed at the Camp Lejeune Safety Office to teach unit Motorcycle Presidents/Vice-Presidents how to manage their programs.
    • Two-day course.
  • Under 26 Driver Training
    • Required training for all active-duty personnel 26 and under.
    • Requirement can be satisfied by taking course CMCSDDAT01 on MarineNet.

 

GENERAL SAFETY
  • Facility/Workplace Inspections
    • Units/workplaces with 0018’s on staff will conduct their own inspections and Installation Safety will provide oversight.
  • Mishap Reporting and Recordkeeping
    • Assistance with mishap reporting, as requested.
  • Safety Promotions
    • Support safety awareness promotion efforts (safety fairs, safety events).
    • Semper Safe articles.

 

SAFETY TRAINING
  • Confined Space Entry
    • Compliance Inspection/Assessment.
    • Perform annual program audit.
    • Verify completion of training for Entry Supervisor, Attendant, and Entrant.
    • Verify Unit has planned CS rescue services prior to entry.
  • Electrical Safety
    • General compliance inspection.
  • Emergency Eyewash/Shower Units
    • Consultation on selection, acquisition, location, installation, maintenance, testing and use of emergency shower and eyewash units.
  • Ergonomics
    • Assessment of workstation, on request.
    • Quarterly Ergonomic Team Meetings.
    • General compliance inspection/assessment.
  • Fall Protection
    • Equipment selection and use assistance.
    • End User training.
    • Inspection of fall protection harness, self-retracting lanyard, and related equipment.
    • Fall Protection Plan/Rescue Plan Training and compliance.
    • Fall Protection Survey training and compliance.
    • Ladder compliance inspection/assessment.
    • Ladder safety awareness training.
    • Work area evaluation and task risk assessments.
    • Slips, trips, and falls awareness training.
  • Hazard Communication
    • Program evaluation.
    • Work area compliance assessment.
  • Hearing Conservation
    • Provide noise hazard awareness training.
    • Work area noise evaluation coordinated with IH.
  • Lead
    • General compliance inspection/risk assessment.
    • Maintain and update sampling records.
    • Review lead abatement plans.
    • Provide technical support.
  • Lockout/Tagout
    • Awareness training for affected personnel.
    • General compliance inspection on applicable areas.
    • Program assessment and/or assistance.
  • Machine Guarding
    • Training on the basic principles and safety precautions for machine guarding. 
    • General compliance inspection/assessment.
  • Occupational Reproductive Hazards
    • Coordinate with Industrial Hygiene to evaluate reproductive stressors and maintain exposures as low reasonably achievable.
  • Personal Protective Equipment
    • Provide training on selection, use, care and maintenance of PPE.
    • Evaluate work area to determine if engineering and administrative controls cannot reduce the noise hazard to an acceptable level.
  • Respiratory Protection Program
    • Assist in selection of appropriate respiratory protection equipment.
    • Fit testing qualified respirator users.
    • Training on use, storage, and maintenance of respiratory protection equipment.
    • General compliance inspection/assessment.
  • Sight Conservation
    • Provides general sight conservation awareness.
    • Provides prescription safety eyewear to government employees who meet the requirements of the order.
  • Unsafe/Unhealthful, Anymouse, Safety-Related ICE Submissions
    • Investigate all safety related submissions and determine necessary steps to ensure the safety of base personnel.
  • Workplace Assessment
    • Evaluation of occupational hazards (hazardous noise, chemical exposures, heat/cold stress, vibration, etc.)
    • Coordinate with Industrial Hygiene, Fire Department, or other organizations as needed.
