Sergeant Major Robert M. Tellez

SgtMaj Tellez enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps in 1993 and attended recruit training at MCRD San Diego. Upon completion of recruit training he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton and Communications Center Operators Course, Marine Corps Communications Electronics School at Twenty-nine Palms. After completing MOS school LCpl Tellez was assigned to 3rd Force Service Support Group at Camp Kinser, Okinawa. From 1995 to 1998, Cpl Tellez served with 7th Marine Regiment, Twentynine Palms, as a Communication Center Supervisor.

In April of 1998, Cpl Tellez served as the Communications Center Supervisor for Marine Communications Detachment U.S.S. Blueridge, Yokosuka, Japan, then Sgt Tellez was assigned to Marine Forces Korea, Seoul Korea. From 1999 to 2002 SSgt Tellez was assigned to 9th Communications Battalion, I MEF Headquarters Group where he attended Small Arms Weapons Instructors Course and assumed duties as Battalion Primary Marksmanship Instructor.

In October 2002, SSgt Tellez reported to MCRD San Diego for Basic Recruiter School then assigned to Recruiting Substation Modesto where he was named Recruiting Station Sacramento 2004 Recruiter of the Year. Upon completion of Recruiting Duty in 2007, GySgt Tellez was assigned to Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division as the Data Communications Chief. From June 2007 to January 2009 GySgt Tellez deployed with Regimental Combat Team 5 to Iraq.

In February 2009, GySgt Tellez was frocked to the rank of 1stSgt and received orders to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion where he was assigned to Marine Special Operations Company Charlie. While with Charlie Company 1stSgt Tellez successfully completed MARSOC Full Spectrum SERE and Urban Assault Leaders Course. In November 2009, 1stSgt Tellez served as Task Force 1stSgt for Special Operations Task Force 81, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force Afghanistan. While at MARSOC, 1stSgt Tellez graduated Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Course, Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy and earned the Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist Insignia.

From September 2011 to March 2014, 1stSgt Tellez served as the Company First Sergeant for Production and Analysis Company, 3rd Intelligence Battalion, Camp Hansen, Okinawa. March 2014 to March 2015, SgtMaj Tellez served as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 3d Maintenance Battalion, Camp Kinser, Okinawa. April 2015 to February 2017, he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major for 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Camp Pendleton. February 2017 to January 2018, he served as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3, MCAS Miramar. In February 2018 to November 2020, he served as the Group Sergeant Major for Marine Aircraft Group 11, MCAS Miramar. SgtMaj Tellez currently serves as the Marine Corps Installations East-Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune Sergeant Major.

SgtMaj Tellez's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold stars in lieu of third award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He has a Bachelor's degree of Science in Strategic Studies and Defense Analysis from Norwich University. He is completing the final Capstone for a Master's degree of Science in National Security Studies from American Military University.
